The Cult Mecca Maxima Brands You Need To Know

When Mecca Maxima (Gateway, Level 1) opened at Wollongong Central last year, fans had queued since 2am. This is the hype the beauty emporium commands, with everyone from A-listers to beauty influencers obsessed with their range of more than 100 global brands in skincare, make-up and fragrance. Before you dive in, here are a few of our favourites.

One for the colour addicts! Urban Decay was created in the ‘90s to rebel against the “colour void” in make-up shades at the time (pink everywhere!). Edgy and bold, the brand was initially aimed at the music festival scene - think Gwen Stefani, who still remains a fan of the brand today. 
CULT PICK: Urban Decay Naked Eyeshadow Palette, $83 

LA celebrity glam is the calling card of this range by brothers Dean and Davis Factor (the great-grandsons of Max Factor). Part of their business empire that included their top photography studio Smashbox Studios, it’s easy to why the range became the go-to of LA’s creative elite and top make-up artists.

A three-time author, L’Oreal spokesperson and make-up artist to stars like Cate Blanchett, Miranda Kerr and Pink, Australian Rae Morris is big business in beauty. Her range is all about industry standard make-up tools. Crafted in Japan and built with magnetic technology, they were an instant hit! 
CULT PICK: Rae Morris Jishaku #5 Flawless Shader, $145 

Beauty addicts have long adored this innovative brand. Known for bringing glitter eye shadow to the market, Too Faced may be groundbreakers, but the range is refreshingly playful - think products like “Size Queen” mascara and chocolate bar eyeshadow palettes that look good enough to eat!
